Ahead of this round 31 match, Caen find themselves in the lower part of
the Ligue 1 (L1) table, and will be hoping to put some distance between
themselves and the relegation zone. Meanwhile, Montpellier will be
looking to overtake fifth-placed Rennes in the standings.

In 13 previous meetings at the Stade Michel-dOrnano in L1 history, Caen
have a balanced record against Montpellier; standing at W5, D3, L5 (13
goals scored /14 goals conceded). However, Montpellier have the much
better record in recent history, winning the last three L1 clashes
against their hosts.

Currently on a bad run of two straight defeats in the league, Caen have
slipped to 13th place in the standings, and are now just six points
ahead of the relegation zone.

Despite this gloomy period, Caen have scored at least two goals in their
last three home L1 fixtures. However, with only 22 goals scored in 30 L1
matches, Caen still have the worst attack in the league.

After drawing Lyon at home (1-1) and Lille away (1-1), Michel Der
Zakarian’s side were held to a draw at home by Rennes, two weeks ago
(1-1). Currently on a run of five straight draws in L1, Montpellier have
been solid, but are still stuck in seventh place.

Players to watch: Caen French striker Ronny Rodelin has been directly
involved in 40% of his team’s 22 goals. He has a record of five goals
and four assists in L1 so far this season.

Rodelin will go head-to-head with Montpelliers 28-year-old Ivorian
striker Giovanni Sio who has eight goals and two assists in L1.

Stat attack: Montpellier have seen less than three goals in 11 of their
last 12 away games in the top flight, recording five clean sheets in
their last seven.

They are, however, still the strongest away defence in L1 with only ten
goals conceded.
